The international swine industry community has confirmed that Madrid will host the IPVS & ESPHM 2028 from June 20 to 23, 2028, at IFEMA Madrid.
The designation was made official during the International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS 2026), held this week in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where the Spanish proposal was officially presented following the procedure established by the organization. The proposal was presented both to the IPVS Board and during the General Assembly, culminating in the confirmation of Spain as the host country for the 2028 edition.

The joint celebration of the International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS) and the European Symposium of Porcine Health Management (ESPHM) will once again bring together in a single event researchers, veterinarians, producers, companies, and professionals from all over the world across the pork value chain.
A recognition of the Spanish swine industry
Hosting IPVS & ESPHM 2028 in Spain represents significant recognition of its role in global pig production. With over 2.65 million breeding sows and as the leading pig producer in the European Union, Spain has established itself as an international benchmark in production, animal health, innovation, and applied research.
Furthermore, the congress will mark the return of the IPVS to Spain four decades after its last celebration in the country.
"The selection of Madrid as the host city for IPVS & ESPHM 2028 is a testament to the hard work, professionalism, and commitment of the Spanish swine industry. We are proud to welcome the international swine community to Spain and offer a forum for sharing knowledge, fostering innovation, and discussing the future of the industry," said Joaquim Segalés, president of the Local Organizing Committee of IPVS & ESPHM 2028.
Madrid, meeting point of the global swine community
The Spanish candidate opted for Madrid as the venue for the event due to its excellent international connectivity, its organizational capacity, and its infrastructure for hosting large international congresses.
The congress will take place at IFEMA Madrid, one of the main trade fair and congress venues in Europe, which will allow the integration of technical sessions, the exhibition area, networking activities, and the social events of the congress to be held in the same space.
Under the theme “Sustainability and One Health: the swine way forward,” IPVS & ESPHM 2028 will offer a comprehensive scientific program focused on some of the key areas for the future of the swine industry. Provisional topics include virology and viral diseases, bacteriology and bacterial diseases, reproduction, parasitology, farm health management, nutrition, vaccinology and immunology, welfare and ethology, digitalization, sustainability, and the One Health approach.
A project backed by the entire industry
The candidacy has been led by ANAPORC, with the support of INTERPORC as Main Partner, and has had the backing of a wide range of associations, institutions, universities, and representative organizations of the Spanish swine industry.
The organization would like to express its gratitude for the support received throughout the application process, as well as the trust placed in it by the international swine community to host one of the most important events on the industry's scientific and professional calendar.
With this designation, Spain officially begins its journey towards 2028, with the aim of organizing a benchmark edition for the global scientific and professional swine community, consolidating Madrid as an international meeting point for the exchange of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration.
